Many people ask why I don't give away all my digital files
When considering a purchase of digital files, it may seem logical to assume they should be less expensive since there is no physical product involved.
However, when you choose to buy a digital image from a photographer, you are investing in a professional's expertise, creativity, and dedication to their craft. You are supporting someone who captures moments and memories that you can cherish forever, allowing you to relive those experiences through their artistry.
True professional photographers incur numerous expenses. A typical photographer's kit includes at least two camera bodies and several lenses. They invest in lighting equipment, backdrops, and the necessary tools to create stunning images. On top of that, there are business expenses such as computers, websites, rental space, marketing efforts, insurance, and taxes. The cost of running a photography business far exceeds merely having a quality camera.
It's not uncommon to see a wide range of prices for digital files—some photographers may offer them for as low as $5, while others may charge $500 or more for a single file. Additionally, many professionals offer packages that bundle a set number of digital files with their services at a higher upfront cost.
This insight aims to clarify why digital files can be perceived as costly. While I understand that not every family may want to invest significantly in photography, reflecting on the journey and dedication that goes into creating beautiful images can influence your decision. Understanding the value may help you appreciate the artistry involved, making your choice easier and your images more meaningful.
